Who Needs CLE?
All Texas-licensed attorneys must complete CLE credits to maintain their license, unless they qualify for an exemption.
Common exemptions include:
- Attorneys with inactive status
- Newly licensed attorneys (limited exemption period)
Your reporting period is tied to your birth month. You must report completed hours to the State Bar of Texas to avoid penalties and maintain active status.
How Many Credits?
Texas attorneys must complete 15 hours annually, broken down as follows:
Your compliance year runs from your birth month to the following year's birth month.
